
Biography
Akpinar is self-taught on the Turkish string instrument Baglama; but also he compleated in the eighties a Master course with the legendary vocalist and virtuoso Baglama Artist Talip Özkan in Paris. Afterwards he had harmony theory classes and instruction along with expert instrument experience with Tayfun Erdem, and Piano lessons with Henning Schmiedt. In 2002, he graduated after completing his education in Comparative Music Science (Music Ethnology) and Turkology.
In different musical projects he performed as a Baglama player with the Europe tourne of Mikis Theodorakis and Zülfü Livaneli, with reading evenings of Gisela Kraft and in a performance of „Die Entführung aus dem Serrail“ directed by Georg Tabori. With his Greek-German Rembertico Band Zotos Campania, he gave concerts in countries including Austria, Switzerlnd, Belgium, Greece, and produced two albums. With his project „Johann Dede“, a piece for string ochestra, he performed with the Berlin Symphoniker in the Berlin Philharmonie. In 2007, Akpinar performed a concert with the Nevzat Akpinar Ensemble in the course of the „Berlin in Lights“ Festival in New York Carnegie Hall.
In 2008, he produced his first solo CD „Melez Yollarda/On Hybrid Ways“ which included a selection of his compositions for solo Baglama. He also composes solo pieces for Baglama, songs based on turkish poems, and chamber music.
